Literature Text

The deep and resonant purr,
To some brings sleep,
On petrol heavy wings.
To others, rising agitation,
As seconds pass,
And passers-by,
Outpace the hulking beast.

Each pause brings new victims,
Impatient for their daily dose,
Of apathy, and ennui,
And early morning blues.

The monster lumbers on,
Bedecked with yellow and horrific blue,
Advertisements for pre-made movies,
And clichéd meals,
With only half the fat.

Though chiefs may yell,
And expound on the virtues of punctuality,
Even they know the uncertainty of morning traffic,
And the crowds that clog the streets on rainy days.

As another head begins to nod,
Trades resentfulness for rest,
I think, “Thank God for life”,
“And for those precious extra moments sleep.”
My own personal view on mornings.
I think every event can be as tiresom or as refreshing as you make it. You can choose to look at your morning bus-ride as an annoying delay in your morning routine, or you can use it to catch up on your sleep, your reading, or even your idle philosophical thoughts. (Or in my case, to compose poetry!)

Once again I was trying to describe a commonplace event without using the words commonly associated with it. I told myself at the start that I wouldn't use the words 'bus', 'passenger' or 'late'.
